Bio
Jim Bauld is a partner at TC Young and is recognised by the Law Society of Scotland as an Accredited Specialist in Housing and Residential Tenancy Law.
He has almost 40 years of litigation experience in Sheriff Court work throughout Scotland. Jim uses his experience to give clients practical advice on complex issues such as debt recovery, tenant eviction, succession to tenancies, repairs, leases, accessing properties and antisocial behaviour.
Jim has represented clients in numerous cases which are now regarded as legal precedents in housing law including decisions on:evictions for rent arrears
- wrongful claims to successions to tenancies
- repairs duties
- antisocial behaviour (involving general disorder and criminal activities including drug dealing)
- notices to quit
He is listed by the Chambers Legal Guide as a Band 1 practitioner in Social Housing, where it is noted that “He is very clear in his advice and acknowledged as an expert in the field.”
Jim is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Glasgow Bar Association and the convenor of the Law Society of Scotland accreditation panel for the specialism in Housing and Residential Tenancy Law.
He remains a prolific contributor to training events and seminars across Scotland, covering the whole range of housing law issues. He has delivered training on behalf of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, Landlord Accreditation Scotland, Legal Services Agency and a number of local authorities. Jim is also co-author of the CIH publication on “Suspending Housing Applicants – a Practical Guide”.
His expertise has been externally acknowledged by his appointment as a legal member of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber). In that role he has also regularly delivered training to fellow tribunal members on housing law issues.
He is also a member of First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Local Taxation Chamber) and First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Social Security Chamber)
Jim has also been involved in Scottish government working groups which have dealt with a variety of proposals which have resulted in significant changes to housing law and practice.
Outside work, Jim does what he is told by his wife and is sometimes allowed to attend football matches and occasionally play a round of golf !!
