All throughout my high school years I was asked what I wanted to do when I left, my answer was always “I’ll just go to college or university.” I left high school still undecided in what I was to do. Looking for work is always a daunting process, and I had no idea that modern apprenticeships even existed. After hours of internet research I came across the modern apprenticeship scheme. I signed up and instantly received notifications about potential interviews.

Transitioning from seeing my peers at school on a day-to-day basis to a more professional office setting with my colleagues was quite the change. Despite this, I quickly settled into my workplace and have been supported by my friends at work ever since. I enjoy learning more about what people do within their roles at TC Young and everyone has always been willing to teach me more about their job and position within the firm.

I have now been working at TC Young for one and a half years, within this time I’ve been able to flexibly work towards my SVQ in digital applications support and further personal qualifications in Human Resources. I’ve built skills that are vital in the business world and have gained useful working knowledge of the legal sector. Even though my main interest is Human Resources I feel that my modern apprenticeship at TC Young has been an essential part of my development towards my goals. It has been the first step into my future career. I have gained a large portion of the skills I have to date through my time at TC Young and am ever gaining more. Being trained on reception really helped to boost my confidence, working with large quantities of data in excel has improved my accuracy of work and interacting with my colleagues has greatly enriched my personal social skills. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my modern apprenticeship at TC Young.

For any school leavers who are not sure where they want to go or what they want to do when they leave school, then a modern apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity to get into the world of work while continuing to gain further qualifications.
