Alison Hempsey

Alison Hempsey is a Partner within the private client department. She heads the Adult Incapacity Team and helps clients dealing with the challenges of capacity issues, including those with dementia and learning disabilities. Alison gives expert advice on welfare and financial guardianships as well as powers of attorney. 

Alison has a particular interest in Adult Incapacity matters and her work in this area includes applying for Financial & Welfare Guardianship and Intervention Orders. She also provides general advice to families and carers of adults with incapacity, including setting up family trusts. Alison regularly processes adult incapacity actions through the sheriff courts and conducts her own court appearances. She also advises clients on the Access to Funds scheme.

Alison has a varied workload including the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, the administration of estates and trusts and Inheritance Tax planning. She gives clients sensitive and pragmatic advice on these personal issues to best reflect the clients own wishes and circumstances.

She also advises clients in relation to re-mortgages and transfers of title including those which are a result of matrimonial breakdown, working closely with the family team to ensure each client’s individual needs are met.

Alison is a member of STEP Scotland, a professionally recognised qualification for practitioners working in the area of trusts and estates.
